The heat has set in on Denver all right. Today I had the day off from my painting gig and I got on my bike and rode all over the place this morning. I went through a G2 drink and a half. Luckily there was a cool breeze but the heat is on. My ride ranged as far as Sloan’s Lake and Edgewater. From there I turned back and went back across the new bridge over the highway that is right by Paris on the platte. I rode back over to the Cover and read some magazines, browsed the new fiction and non-fiction arrivals. From there I made it back to the hill where I am sitting in air conditioned majesty, just enjoying the afternoon. Lately I have been beating my online chess computer routinely. Right before i wrote this post i back door mated the thing after it took half my pawns and ran my king out of the pocket. I haven’t left the default easy setting though. I play on Chess.com. I have played some live matches and faired Ok but timed chess is different and difficult. I am getting back into chess for more mental stimulation these days.
Recently I have been following the political process closely. I am wavering between voting for Obama and Nader. If it isn’t close in my state I might vote for Nader because I view it as a vote against the two party system. Nader’s policies address the pressing issues f the future like energy more squarely and with more integrity. The two party system is driven too much by special interests and campaign funding-bowing down to corporate America. Recent history has proven that many of the corporate entities which rule the world are manned by criminals. For as much as I like Obama’s freshness and charisma, his voting record doesn’t always match his rhetoric and he remains part of the modern political machine. Historic times are upon us in Denver indeed and the election, the DNC, and the many offshoots of political events in the city are a rich past time for arm chair politicians like myself. Much to do…….
Denver is bracing for the DNC and potential riots. There is this ridiculous motto going around, “bring back 1968″-this refers to the infamous DNC in Chicago where the Police absolutely beat the shit out of the hippies and the media and anybody else who happened to be a bystander. Lets keep the fire hoses and tear gas out of Denver. If the anarchists and the radicals are determined enough, they will get gassed and hosed and who knows what else. I have heard rumors the protesters have bags of urine and shit they intend to hurl at the police. Needless to say, I don;t think I’ll be venturing into the path of the protests. No need to get caught in the crossfire of tear gas and human fecal matter. My hope is that they leave 1968 where it belongs, in the history books.
Well, this afternoon I need to ship books but the yawns of an afternoon nap are upon me. I think I’ll read awhile and than wake up and work on my book business-oh glorious heavan, I love days off now that I am a working stiff.
